Apply to attend a school other than your neighborhood school

Choice enrollment is choosing a school other than your neighborhood school. We always recommend families start by checking out their neighborhood school. But sometimes your neighborhood school isn't the best fit for your student or your family. If this is the case, you can apply to attend another school.

Applications are approved based on school capacity and program availability. Families must provide transportation to and from school and students must reside within Tacoma Public School boundaries.

Please note IDEA, SAMI and SOTA have separate application processes.

How to Apply for Choice Enrollment

You need a ParentVUE account to complete our choice enrollment application.

Current Families with ParentVUE Account

Select the + icon for detailed directions if you have activated your ParentVUE account.

If you are a current TPS family and have an active ParentVUE account:

  1. Login to your ParentVUE account: https://wa-tacoma-psv.edupoint.com/PXP2_Login.aspx
  2. Click on Online Registration
  3. Select "Choice Enrollment Grades 1-12" or "Choice Enrollment Kindergarten"

4. Complete the information to submit your application

Current Families without a ParentVUE Account

Select the + icon for detailed directions if you have not activated your ParentVUE account.

If you are a current TPS family, you will need to use an activation key to create your ParentVUE account.

  1. Contact your school for an activation key to access your account.
  2. Once you have your activation code, login to your ParentVUE account: https://wa-tacoma-psv.edupoint.com/PXP2_Login.aspx
  3. Click on Online Registration
  4. Select "Choice Enrollment Grades 1-12" or "Choice Enrollment Kindergarten"

Families New to Tacoma Public Schools

Select the + icon for detailed directions if you are brand new to TPS and do not have a ParentVUE account.

  1. Complete the directions for new families to enroll in Tacoma Public Schools and create your ParentVUE account: https://www.tacomaschools.org/departments/enrollment
  2. Complete the new student registration process.
  3. Login to your ParentVUE account: https://wa-tacoma-psv.edupoint.com/PXP2_Login.aspx
  4. Click on Online Registration
  5. Select "Choice Enrollment Grades 1-12" or "Choice Enrollment Kindergarten"

Returning or Previously Enrolled Families

Select the + icon for detailed directions if you are returning to TPS and do not have a ParentVUE account.

  1. Contact Enrollment Services for an activation key to create your ParentVUE account. By phone at 253- 571-1142 or email at enrollmentservices@tacoma.k12.wa.us.

But sometimes your neighborhood school isn't the best fit for your student or your family. If this is the case, you can apply to attend another school.

Applying for Non-Neighborhood Choice Enrollment

Students and families can explore Tacoma Schools online, attend enrollment open houses or schedule a visit to a school. Contact the school for event dates or to schedule a visit.

If you are ready to make a choice selection, parents/guardians can apply for Non-Neighborhood Choice Enrollment.

Placement Criteria

Students will be placed into their choice school based on siblings, program availability, space and staffing capacity, but there is no guarantee of placement. Families must provide transportation to and from school and students must reside within Tacoma Public School boundaries.

Decision Timeline and Process

Decisions on non-neighborhood choice applications will be made within one month of choice deadlines and parents/guardians will receive email notification from the Enrollment team. If offered a seat at a non-neighborhood choice school, families have two weeks from the time of notification to accept the seat. Without a response the seat will be forfeited and offered to the next student on the wait list.
